ALL ABOUT MORETOWONDER

THE INSPIRATION FOR MORETOWONDER

A PHILOSOPHY OF INTERPRETIVE DELIGHT

A PHILOSOPHY OF INTERPRETIVE DELIGHT

  • A tepid kind of belief filled my home growing up. My family embraced Christian values in general, but not until I found myself at the empty end of worldly accomplishment did I open my heart fully to the pursuit of a vibrant relationship with God. Though I did not come to God in crisis, God caused me to consider something more to life. In surrendering my life to Christ, I gained a hunger for the riches of the Bible. This led me to return to university where I completed my bachelor's degree, and then continued in seminary study. I have spent the many years since in graduate level scholarship and personal study. These devotions result from the fruit of those continuing studies and inquires into the inexhaustible depths of God's Word. As I continue to dig deeper into God's word, I hunger all the more because I have never found the end of more.

A PHILOSOPHY OF INTERPRETIVE DELIGHT

  • The more that I study the Bible, the more I find new layers of meaning, patterns of symbolic nuance, musical epithets in the original languages, and the undeniable intricacies of inspired design. For all of it to fit so beautifully and perfectly, having originated from the pens of what many have surmised forty inspired writers, astounds the careful observer of the text. Every detail holds its special purpose. Overall, I strive  to share the process of rich discovery in an effort to deepen understanding of the insurmountable beauty of the Bible. The more we mine, the more we find. As we endeavor more  of God, we wonder more. And when we do, we find more to wonder. The apostle Paul's prayer sums it up: "And this I pray, that your love may overflow still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment" (Philippians 1:9, NASB).

THE THEOLOGY OF WONDER

REVELATORY WONDER

The revelation of God operates on two levels, general and particular. On the one hand, nature itself testifies to God in the complexity and diversity of its ordinal design. On the other hand, God provides particular revelation through the Bible. The former expresses a universal appeal to all people which transcends language and culture. It speaks to the soul and beckons the individual to draw near. The latter details the interpersonal nature of revelation. God desires a personal relationship with every single person on earth.

HEEDING THE CALL OF NATURE

Nature speaks for God, or should I say that God speaks through nature. When we take time to look up at the vast sky, consider the formation of clouds, and imagine the endless universe, we stand in amazement. This is the onset of all human searching. God created it all as a means of His redemptive purposes in calling us back to himself. As much as nature in its purest forms picture the Garden of Eden, we realize that God must redeem humanity to meet with His perfection and relate to Him perfectly through Christ. Thus, we must heed the call.

BIBLICAL ILLUMINATION

BIBLICAL ILLUMINATION

To the unbelieving soul, the Bible appears as foolishness. It exceeds the capacity of a closed mind. Conversely, when we open our hearts with earnest questions inspired by nature's call, God speaks to us through the Bible, which illumines our understanding of His character. This character charms and warms the heart, drawing us nearer to God. A progressive process in a lifetime of inquiry, guided by the Holy Spirit yields exceeding joy and peace which overflows to others as instruments of God's illumination and redemption.
